 Spring    Update

Aloha Friends and Family!

THE NEW CREATIONS

In February the team of 13 returned from Papua New Guinea. They spent their three months traveling from village to village sharing the gospel. The main religion in PNG is Catholicism so they are aware of who God is, but spiritual warfare is still very prevalent. Although the team suffered from staff infections, malaria, heat exhaustion, and strains of parasite, God still chose them to do a mighty work. Families were reunited, bodies were healed, and village leaders came to know Jesus as LORD. During their debrief week in Kauai I was able to witness how radically changed they were. From seeing students come into DTS back in September who were timid in their faith, and unaware of their identity, to seeing champions who were ready to impact the world around them. I miss them so much and am so very proud of them.

In the beginning of March, I was blessed enough to fly over to Oahu and spend time with a few other girls from the past DTS. I ended up staying for a month, with the family of one of my students. I am so thankful that they provided me a place of respite, and also being able to be so involved with their church. Their church, Crossroad Ohana, is a Hebraic Non-Denominational Christian Fellowship. The church has similar values as YWAM because their pastor was a missionary with YWAM in the past.

SOMETHING BETTER

One morning in Oahu while reading my bible I opened to this verse. “FOR I AM DOING A WORK IN YOUR DAYS THAT YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE IF TOLD” Habakkuk 1:5.  I sat there in shock. This was the exact kind of encouragement God knew I needed. Every day, I would write down Habakkuk 1:5, slowly growing in confidence of who my God is. Before anything momentous happened (which I’ll share in bit), he was planting the seeds of what I could rely on in those moments. It has been a season of believing that God is who He says He is, and knowing I DONT NEED TO STRIVE. That verse has framed the last few months for me.

Even while I was recovering from surgery in California, I was asking God to provide a car. Cars on Kauai are usually shipped from the mainland and already in used condition, and also usually not very reliable. In the beginning of the March God kept speaking that verse “For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told”. Not only was he speaking it, He was asking me to trust Him though it. He told me He was doing the work, and it would be amazing… But instead of completely trusting Him, I got overwhelmed by all the stress that buying a car comes with.

When I got back to Kauai, me and our base directors went to have dinner at a friends house. He was selling his Honda CR-V, which is one car I was looking at. The car was fine with first few days until it started to overheat just driving 3 minutes into town. I prayed that the problem would be a cheap, easy fix, but it wasn’t. The head gasket needed to be replaced and it would cost more to fix it then what I bought it for. My friend gave me back the money and took back the car.

So once again, I looked to this verse. God promised He was already doing a work, and that I wouldn't even believe it if He told me. So in faith, I started saying “God I know you're going to give me an even better car, because that’s who you are. A few days later I went on craigslist and prayed that exact prayer. I stumbled across a green Honda Element which is not what I was looking at, but I felt the peace of the Holy Spirit right away. A few days later I traveled up to North Shore with my directors, and we looked at the car. The seller had offered it for $3,000 but I offered  $2,000, and the man agreed right away. Not only did God lower the price significantly, He provided a car that didn't need much maintenance. This car was something better than I could’ve asked for.

The day after I got my car, I started working at a shave ice place in Waimea! It was very important to me to be able to work in Waimea, so that I could get to know my community even more, and that I would able to shine a light where I lived and where future students would be coming to live. The managers of Jojo’s shave ice are friends of YWAM Kauai, and have already been so understanding with my schedule. My vision for working there is that it is support to my ministry, in being able to save money for outreach this year, and also as a platform to share my story and purpose in Kauai.

WHAT’S NEXT

In the next few months I’ll be working mainly, as well as continuing my role in YWAM Kauai. This is a time for me personally to take part in God’s plans for Kauai, and plant seeds in people’s hearts here. This year we have had an influx of applications which is amazing, but as a base we are working on trying to organize the process in the most efficient way.

Some of you may have heard about the flooding on Kauai. The flooding happened on the North Shore, I live on West Side so I was completely untouched. A couple weeks ago we went to go help clean a church that had been affected by the flood. This church is more than a hundred years old and it was devastating to see the original floorboards coming up and the wooden pews drenched in water. The positive side of this is seeing the island come together to help out.

In July the rest of the staff will return to Kauai! In July we have a lot of time to pray together and let God lay the ground work for the upcoming school. The summer is also a time where we as a base are able to serve all over the island, therefore making relationships and establishing a wider perspective of what God wants to do on our island.

Prayer Requests

  • THE YELLOW HOUSE ( Our base does not own property, we rent houses for our staff and students. There is a house down the road which is available for rent, and would be an amazing upgrade for us. It was formerly used as an inn so it has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. Our current house has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms which can be a challenge at times. I’ve been prayer walking the house several times a week in faith that God will provide an amazing house for us)

  • FINANCES ( This next year I would like to raise enough support to be able to pay for insurance, gas, food, and blessing my students occasionally)

  • RELATIONSHIPS ( I see a lot of potential to make a deep impact on my co workers at Jojos.I want to be able to share how much Jesus loves them and is actively pursuing them)
